How to block TikTok on iPhone
To block TikTok on iPhone, go to Settings → Screen Time → App Limits → Add Limit, choose TikTok, set the time, and turn on Block at End of Limit with a Screen Time passcode. If you know the passcode yourself, a blocker such as Screenwage works better: TikTok stays locked until you earn time by focusing.
Updated
Way 1: a Screen Time App Limit (free)
- Open Settings → Screen Time and turn it on if it is off.
- Tap Lock Screen Time Settings (or Use Screen Time Passcode) and set a passcode.
- Tap App Limits → Add Limit, find TikTok (under Social or Entertainment, or use the search field), select it, and tap Next.
- Set the daily time, for example 0 hours 1 minute, and turn on Block at End of Limit.
- Tap Add.
Without the passcode and Block at End of Limit, the limit is only a reminder you can extend. With them, TikTok needs the passcode once the time is up, which works best when someone else knows it.
Way 2: Downtime for set hours (free)
Downtime blocks every app except the ones you allow, during a schedule you choose. Go to Settings → Screen Time → Downtime, set the schedule, and make sure TikTok is not in Always Allowed. This suits nights and school hours, but it is broad: it blocks almost everything at once.
Way 3: lock TikTok until you earn it (Screenwage)
- Install Screenwage from the App Store and allow Screen Time access when asked.
- Pick TikTok in Apple’s app picker, along with anything else you want to lock.
- When you want TikTok, start a focus session. Each grain you earn buys one minute.
- Open TikTok, spend your grains, and it locks again when the time runs out.
Because the way in is earned rather than typed, there is no passcode to know and no Ignore Limit button. For exam season, Quiz mode unlocks TikTok when you answer questions from your notes instead; for school days, Lock hours keep it asleep during the hours you choose.
Block TikTok in Safari too
Blocking the app leaves tiktok.com open in the browser. In Screenwage, Apple’s picker lets you add websites alongside apps. With Screen Time alone, go to Settings → Screen Time → Content & Privacy Restrictions → App Store, Media, Web & Games → Web Content, choose Limit Adult Websites, and add tiktok.com under Never Allow.
Menu names can differ slightly between iOS versions; these steps follow iOS 17 and later.
Should you just delete TikTok?
Deleting it works until you reinstall it, which takes seconds. If that is your pattern, a lock you can earn your way through is easier to live with than a total ban, so it tends to stay on.
Questions
- Can I block TikTok on iPhone for free?
- Yes. Screen Time App Limits and Downtime are free and built into iOS. Set a passcode and turn on Block at End of Limit so the limit cannot be ignored with a tap.
- How do I stop myself from just extending the limit?
- Give the Screen Time passcode to someone you trust, or use a blocker that has no bypass button, such as Screenwage, where TikTok opens only with time you earned by focusing.
- Does blocking TikTok also block it in Safari?
- No. Blocking the app does not block tiktok.com. Add the website separately, in Screenwage’s picker or in Screen Time’s Web Content settings.
